We were treated to a sizzling season two of Sex/Life, filled with sweaty romps, enthusiastic full frontals and did someone mention a butter churner?

If you've binge-watched your way to the end you've no doubt been left curious about that very neat and tidy ending and what it means for the future of Sex/Life.

Here's what we know about Sex/Life season three so far.

Sex/Life season 3: potential release date: Has Sex/Life been cancelled?

The first season of Sex/Life dropped on June 25, 2021 and it wasn't long before the second was commissioned. The news that more raunch would be heating up the Netflix screens came in August 2021, but no such luck for season three.

Sadly, Sex/Life has been dropped by Netflix after two seasons, lowering the curtain on Billie, Brad and their sexploits.

Deadline confirmed the cancellation news in April 2023 from a Netflix spokesperson, describing the second season as the natural ending to the show's story.

The spokesperson added that season two wrapped up storylines for key characters whose relationships came to a happy conclusion, ending with the fact that Netflix was proud of the show.

Fans might have seen the news coming after Shahi opened up about the tricky time she had on set for the second season.

Speaking on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, she said: "I definitely did not have the support that I did the first season.

"It became a much different thing for me, and I'm not afraid to say that. I struggled with the material. I mean, I'm never going to work for Netflix again now after saying all this. I just can't lie."

The news was all the more devastating for fans after creator Stacy Rukeyser had weighed in on the growing discourse surrounding the show's future to say that season two was not the end in her eyes.

"It's definitely not intended to be a series finale," Rukeyser told Variety. "I believe there are always more stories to tell with these characters."

Sex/Life season 3 cast: Who could be back for Sex/Life season 3?

We now know that the show will not be returning, but the life-or-death stakes have always been fairly low on this show so it was unlikely we would have seen a major death in the third season, if it had gone ahead.

Even Cooper and Devon, who were involved in the most terrifying, drug-fuelled, car crash in the penultimate episode, managed to come out relatively unscathed. Devon even got an upgrade on his reconstructed penis (It was a whole thing. So to speak.)

We went into the season two finale – and now show finale – with Brad and Billie finally running into the sunset with one another, with a baby on the way.

Sex/Life season 3 plot: What could happen in Sex/Life season 3?

When season two drew to a close, everyone had their storylines tied up with a neat bow.

It was nuptials gone mad with Cooper, Billie and Sasha all being married off. Billie even discovered she was pregnant with Brad's child (thank goodness it wasn't Majid's, we couldn't take an ounce more drama).

With their lives all seemingly perfect, it would take someone dastardly to think up storylines that would unpick those knots.

"This show has always been intended to be escapist and inspirational, to inspire women to really look at their lives and make sure they're happy and that they're getting what they want — that they're being all parts of themselves," series creator Stacy Rukeyser also told Variety.

"And I feel that giving them a happy ending is a much better way to inspire women than basically making Billie miserable because she screwed up."

This unplanned ending feels ironic in light of original author BB Easton's description of her earliest encounters with Sex/Life's executive producer, J. Miles Dale (via Forbes).

"He told me that it was more than just the funny, sexy elements that made him really gravitate to this story. He said it was that this type of story of a wife and mother hasn't really been told before. He knew it was really going to hit a different audience because it shines a light on women at a time of our lives when we're told we are invisible."

"It's like a woman's story ends after she gets married and has children and it's really cool for me to see the kind of response this show is getting. When women become mothers they can still be sex goddesses. We can be more than one thing and we still have stories to tell after this life change."

So, yes, it really is like a woman's story ends after she gets married and has children in this instance, that's how season two – and the show – concludes.
